IFF Targets Sustainability With Latest Ingredient Acquisitions

International Flavors & Fragrances continues to build its ingredients portfolio via acquisition.
A subsidiary of the business has bought the rights to three ingredients from Kermin Industries, following IFF's massive $7.1 billion deal for Frutarom, a natural ingredients supplier.
IFF-Lucus Meyer Cosmetics has purchased Lysofix, an emulsifier extracted from a non-GMO soybean source, which can be used to evenly disperse sunscreen and makeup pigments on skin. The business also bought XFoliPearl, an alternative exfoliator to plastic microbeads, and MicroCurb, a preservative made from oregano extract. Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
The deals are in line with IFF's increased focus on natural ingredients and sustainability, which it has said are in high demand from its customers in food and beauty.
"Consumers are more aware than ever of the impact their choices have on the environment, so including these compelling active and functional products in our line is a win for our customers, consumers and the planet," said IFF-LMC's president and chief executive officer, Antonio Lara.
Aside from the Frutarom deal, IFF has made several acquisitions in the natural ingredient space. The organization also teamed up with Unilever to support vetiver farmers in Haiti back in 2016, as a means to create "a social and environmentally positive impact," Kip Cleverley, vice president of global sustainability at IFF, said at the time.
