Danny Miller initially joined the cast of Emmerdale back in 2008 and he bagged prestigious gongs during his time on the show. He won the British Soap Award for Best Actor in 2011, 2012 and 2016, respectively. The star has gone from strength to strength professionally but he has admitted to personal struggles too.
In a poignant post on Instagram during the first coronavirus lockdown, the soap star documented the dark chapter.
Danny heaped praise on his partner Steph and dog Gini for supporting him through that testing time.
The post read: “I couldn’t have got through lockdown without these two little belters!”
The star went on to single out his partner in the post: “Truth is @stephjones1710 is the secret behind this black mirror of mine. She deserves the credit, entirely.”
Danny continued: “We all show off our best moments on socials, never do we share the worst moments. But this girl has shared and carried some of the lowest points of my life over the last few months.”
Danny went on to call Steph a “bloody good partner, daughter, sister, auntie but most importantly a true friend”, adding that she was “a light at the end of a very dark tunnel”.
He added: “All that thrown into a big bowl of love and appreciation, mixed in with a beautiful cavapoo in little Gini has played a huge part in me overcoming those dark moments!
“Anxiety and depression grabs you and shakes you no matter who you are or what walk of life. And I hope you read this post (and yes you may cringe) and see the bigger picture. Talk to someone. And allow someone to love you and love them in return.”

Anxiety and depression – what’s the difference?
Anxiety and depression symptoms can overlap so it can be hard to tease them apart but there are some key differences.
“A key difference between anxiety and depression is that one refers to a single illness, and the other to a group of conditions,” explains Bupa.
According to the health body, “depression is really one illness. It has lots of different symptoms”.
Depression symptoms include:
- A low mood and/or a loss of interest or enjoyment in most activities
- Feelings of worthlessness, low self-esteem or low confidence
- Thoughts of death or suicide.
Anxiety, on the other hand, actually describes a group of conditions, notes Bupa.
“Anxiety includes some less common conditions. These include phobias and panic disorders. But the most common is generalised anxiety disorder (GAD),” explains the health body.
GAD is estimated to affect between four and five in every 100 people in the UK.
Like depression, GAD and depression can both have emotional and physical symptoms.
“People with GAD feel anxious most days and often struggle to remember the last time they felt relaxed,” explains the NHS.
Other symptoms include:
- Having trouble concentrating or sleeping
- Dizziness or heart palpitations.
